Challenge: The District Office of a multi-campus technical college in Minnesota needed a market study to analyze the potential for the development of a new supervision training program focusing on meeting the needs of light manufacturers, the printing industry and health care providers.
JCS Solution: Johnson Consulting Services gathered information, directed the internal research efforts of staff, and facilitated a critical review to develop a training program designed to meet market needs. We reviewed a wide array of internal data to isolate internal strengths and links with the key target markets. We obtained and evaluated the impact of a variety of employment trends and training needs focused on the targeted industries. We conducted interviews with key industry associations, employers in the targeted industries, other business and professional organizations, and competitive training programs. We assessed the reputation of the client, key strengths that provide a competitive advantage and critical customer decision points. We reviewed the information to evaluate and isolate target market needs. We developed strategies for the program development and identified critical success factors.
Results: The District Office decision makers received the critical insight they needed to develop the program. The director was extremely pleased with the depth of information gathered and the critical insights allowed them to create a successful program. We sere subsequently retained to engage in further work with staff to market the program. This organization is now the largest stand-alone technical college in the state.
