ICON Award

Bill Gaier, Publisher of Finance & Commerce and Minnesota Lawyer, presents Jill Johnson with the ICON award.

Now in its third year, the ICON Awards pay “tribute to the titans of the boardroom and the courtroom” by recognizing individuals with proven success throughout a lengthy and accomplished career.

A panel of judges selected this year’s honorees from across Minnesota for having exhibited distinctive excellence who have also been active in their communities and in mentoring the next generation.

This honor places Johnson among an elite group of senior business leaders whose years of leadership, achievements, and contributions to the Minnesota business community are especially noteworthy.

Johnson is one of only 21 honorees—and just three women—from the business and legal communities selected for the honor. She is also one of the few entrepreneurial enterprise founders to ever be honored with this award.

“The leaders recognized by the ICON awards are among the most accomplished and impactful executives and attorneys in Minnesota,” said Johnson. “To be one of the few people to receive this exclusive award is truly an extraordinary honor.”

ICON honorees have included chief executive officers as well as attorneys, commercial real estate executives, CPAs, financial advisers, Minnesota Supreme Court justices, and a former Minneapolis mayor.

Johnson founded Johnson Consulting Services, a management consulting firm specializing in strategy development, in 1987. She has served clients from across the USA, Europe, and Asia. Her expert counsel has influenced over $4 billion worth of business decisions for clients including Mayo Clinic, ResMed, Salvation Army, United Way, Minneapolis Club, Covenant Retirement Communities, Walker Methodist, Fairview, Association for Corporate Growth and many others.

Johnson has served on the board of directors for numerous business and non-profit organizations. She has served on two federal boards and chaired an Advisory Board for the Minnesota Department of Employment & Economic Development. Johnson was the Board Chair for the Homes for Heroes Foundation to provide financial and housing resources to military personnel, police/peace officers and first responders in dire need of support.

Johnson is well known for her long-term mentoring efforts with young professionals and college students. Having mentored well over 100 people over the last two decades, many of them now have board positions on the Guthrie Theater, Minneapolis Club, industry associations, as well as increasing levels of responsibility at companies like Anthem, Allina Health, General Mills, and 3M or have started their own businesses.
